Technicians are key
members of the science and technology
workforce. They use their skills in a wide
range of organisations, from food and health
through to nuclear and aerospace. Two recent
government White Papers highlighted the
economic need for the UK to create a ‘modern
class of technicians’.
In response to these White
Papers and other reports at that time, the
Technician Council has been established to
provide a catalyst for the engineering,
science, ICT and health communities in their
work raising the profile of technicians and
providing professional recognition and
development for those working in
technician-based roles.
At the heart of the
Technician Council’s ethos is the
understanding that the formation of any
professional recognition scheme for
technicians should be based on employer
needs and perspectives.
